a well-rounded insult

It's not every day that you hear an insult that is worth preserving, but today I was put in memory of the 1965 World's Fair, where I had a job working for the General Electric exhibition. I was one of a number of young people assembled to direct visitors and one of those coworkers was Mary Gizzy, a tart-tongued wit even at 25, or whatever age we were.

Mary and I were talking one day about a co-worker neither of us liked much and as usual Mary rendered her judgment with a take-no-prisoners assurance:

"She's ugly and her mother dresses her funny."

To this day, I wish I'd said that.
