Israel fires into Syria

.
For the first publicized time that I know of, Israel has fired warning shots into Syria, a land wracked by a protracted and bloody war that has touched a number of abutting countries either by arms fire or by a flow of despairing refugees seeking asylum. Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, Iraq ... and now Israel. The 'developed' countries have thus far kept Syria at arm's length (the complexities are enormous), but how long will they be able to do so when I insist on driving to the supermarket?

And all this on Armistice Day -- the end of World War I on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in 1918 -- which is now celebrated (tomorrow) as Veterans Day . Thank God it's over! Let's start another one!
